The answers Gwen doesn’t stay late for

Three questions the board always asks, answered in plain sentences.

Gwen has eleven board members and forty minutes, once a quarter. They ask the same three questions every time. She used to spend a weekend assembling the answers. Now she reads them.

A single printed page on a boardroom table in cool even light, one corner lifted, headed Cedar Hollow Community Care, care summary for the first quarter. It answers three questions in plain sentences: whether the people served are okay, whether anything is falling through, and whether the organization can take on more. A line at the foot notes that the figures are illustrative.

Cedar Hollow Community Care

Care summary · Q1

Are the people we serve okay?

412 people were in our care this quarter. On a typical morning, 98 of every 100 checked in and were doing well. Every one of the rest had a coordinator’s name next to it the same day.

Is anything falling through?

61 things needed attention this quarter. All 61 were picked up by a named coordinator. 58 closed the same day. Three were still open at quarter’s end, all three with a coordinator and a plan.

Can we take on more?

We added 34 people this quarter without adding staff. Coordinators report spending their mornings on people rather than on paperwork.
